First FEBS Advanced Course on

Systems Biology: From Molecules & Modeling To Cells

March 12- 18, 2005, Gosau, Austria, EU

Travel information:

In principle travel should be to Salzburg airport, or Salzburg main railway station.

Shuttle buses will run from there to the conference center in Gosau (which will take about an hour).

The bus schedule (which will be clickable from Wednesday March 9 here) has been based on the travel schedules of the participants, which they should have e-mailed to hweste@bio.vu.nl with on the subject line: ‘arrival’ name flight number arrival data and time (e.g. arrival Hans Westerhoff, KL231, March 12, 14:10).  In case you travel by train, please type train instead of flight number.  In case of travel by car or parachute, please type the corresponding mode of transportation and expected arrival time.

Once you arrive at the airport proceed to just outside the exit of the baggage area.  A local organizer with a sign ‘FEBSSysBio’ will await the participants there with a clear sign above the crowd: FEBSSysBio2005.  The bus schedule tells you when the bus leaves. If time permits (see your name on the bus schedule), enjoy a coffee or tea.

Once you arrive at the train station go to the main hall of the station and look out for a local organizer, again with a sign ‘FEBSSysBio2005’.  The bus schedule tells you when the bus leaves.

If anything goes wrong, if your flight is delayed, please call the mobile phone number +43 676 572 4348  or +43 676 572 4349  (+43 is for Austria).  Within Austria you may call 0676 572 4349.

The course will end Thursday evening quite late.  Shuttle buses will leave Friday morning before and after breakfast, again depending on the wishes of the participants (which will be asked for at the course).  Up to this moment we have had request for flights leaving at 8h30, whcih we shall meet.

Travel to Gosau

Gosau is located south of Salzburg about 1 hour driving distance by car.

There are flights from every major international airport in Europe to Salzburg. Detailed flight schedules for arrival and departure at the Salzburg Airport will facilitate planning your travel. European train schedules are provided e.g. by Österreichische Bundesbahn or Deutsche Bahn AG.

We will offer continuous shuttle transportation service from Salzburg Airport as well as "Salzburg Hbf" train station to the venue. The costs are included in the registration fee. Schedule and pick-up locations for the shuttle buses will be announced on the web.

Travelers driving to Gosau by car should leave the Salzburg - Vienna freeway A1 (Westautobahn) at the exit Regau, at about half distance between Salzburg and Linz. Headed south on highway B145 (Salzkammergut Bundesstraße), you will pass Gmunden, Ebensee, Bad Ischl and Bad Goisern. Branching off south of Bad Goisern, highway B166 (Paß Gschütt Bundesstraße) brings you directly to Gosau.

Driving on a mountain highway, Gosau can be reached leaving the Salzburg - Villach freeway A10 (Tauernautobahn) at exit Golling about 30 km south of Salzburg. Headed east on highway B162 (Lammertal Bundesstraße) you will pass Abtenau. Still heading in eastern direction on highway B166 (Paß Gschütt Bundesstraße) you will reach Rußbach before the road winds up the mountain to pass "Gschütt". At this point Gosau lies just down the hill.

Let us know if you need more precise directions.
More importantly, please do not drive if you are inexperienced in driving on icy and snowy mountain roads.
